Visa Application Process
Get Accepted by a U.S. School

Before applying for a student visa, you must receive an acceptance letter from a U.S. university, college, or SEVP-certified institution.

After acceptance, the school will issue your Form I-20 (for F-1/M-1) or DS-2019 (for J-1).

Pay the Visa Application Fee
Pay the non-refundable visa application fee (usually around $185, but check your local embassy website for the latest fee and payment instructions).

Attend the Visa Interview

Answer the consular officer’s questions honestly and confidently.

Be prepared to explain your study plans, financial situation, and intentions to return home after your studies.

Pay the SEVIS Fee

Go to FMJfee.com to pay your SEVIS I-901 fee, required to activate your student record in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Keep the payment confirmation as you will need it for your visa interview.

Schedule Your Visa Interview
Book your interview at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Interview wait times can vary, so schedule early.

Receive Your Visa

If approved, your passport with the visa will be returned to you as instructed by the embassy.

Check the visa for any errors before making travel arrangements.

Complete the DS-160 Form (Online Visa Application)

Fill out the DS-160 Form online at the Consular Electronic Application Center.

Upload a recent passport-size photo and note your confirmation number, as you’ll need it to schedule your interview.
